i can’t vibe with anyone who thinks icarus was an ignorant idiot for flying too close to the sun. “oh i’d never do that i would have remembered my father’s warning and been fine”. do you seriously think that after years of imprisonment, feeling the sun on your face and the open air beneath your wings, you would be able to focus on anything but the joy of being alive and free? do you actually think that if you were given the opportunity to go where nobody has never been before, you wouldn’t want to push it to the limit? to dare to be the first to try what no one else has ever even thought possible? do you honestly think you’re too good for your own human nature? look me in the eyes and tell me if i strapped a pair of wings to your back that could take you wherever you wanted to go whenever you pleased that you’d be careful and sensible about it. you are not better than icarus just because you have the benefit of his example.

Random feitan headcanons for the culture

- Feitan Portor isn’t his real name, though Feitan is his birth name he never knew his last name.

- Chrollo helped pick the last name but chose it based off how it sounded rather than meaning or value.

- his spider tattoo is either on his inner thigh or his hip

- he’s trans FtM and has top surgery

- he’s a sadomasochist but would only let people he trusts hurt him, on the contrary he’s fine torturing pretty much anyone.

- Japanese isn’t his native language and adjusting to people speaking it in meteor city was difficult. He never really learned it properly though the troupe helped him learn it.

- he’s very flexible

- he has a lot of affinity for the founding and long term members of the troupe though he doesn’t ever show it.

- he likes animals a lot, cats being his favorite kind.

- he gets overly affectionate when he’s tired or drunk, ready to cling to whoever is around. He’ll deny it and brush it off when sober

the way ivan aivazovsky looks at the sea…i think…i think that’s what love looks like.

love is surrounding yourself with people who see you this clearly

Still the freakiest fact about him is that despite being as tall as a person or more, he banged out these beauties in a day or two at most (and smaller ones ina matter of hours). The longest he spent on a painting, at age 81, to make his largest ever painting, was TEN DAYS:

It is 2.9×4.3 meters large. That’s 9'4"×14'1" for people in other measurement systems. It’s HUGE. There are artists out there that spend years on paintings much smaller than this. He was not one of them.

He also didn’t only paint the sea, but he MOSTLY painted the sea. Very few people could draw light filtering through waves the way this guy did and apparently it was tied into his layering technique that allowed him to paint so goddamn fast.

He is obviously my most favorite painter ever.
